《Do not go gentle into that good night》實際上是一首非常有名的英國詩歌（導演是英國人），為威爾士詩人 Dylan Thomas 被譽為生平最佳的作品，是20世紀最具代表性的十九行「鄉村歌謠」風詩體Villanelle。全詩主要獻
給當時面臨死亡的父親，惋惜他逝去的青春，並給予他信心和力量與死神搏鬥。
原詩作者用於激勵自己的父親，然而諾蘭使用此詩來呼應「人類生於地球，卻不該滅絕於此」的電影中心思想，並希望激發要角們的鬥志，設法拯救人類延續物種。
同時這首詩也被廣為流傳在小說電影影集歌詞甚至遊戲中，例如David Tennant 演出時的《Doctor Who》其中一集引用，英雄聯盟LOL的冥血邪劍厄薩斯Aatrox也有時會有這句話出現，《ID4星際終結者》也有在一段演講中提及，BBC影集In the Flesh《復生》的墓碑上也刻上這首詩等等。
